Introduction
Information technology is an exciting field and can offer people rewarding careers for those with the right stuff.  Your task is to explore the skills and requirements for pursuing a career in the technology field and prepare an application for a prospective job.  The following are some general career interest sites which may help in getting started with your research as well as writing resumes and preparing for your report.

  • Task
    There are two tasks to complete. 
    1. Firstly, you will use the career information you find to write a report which will follow the headings below:

    2. Employability Skills for the 21st Century
      Do you have what it takes to pursue a career in the Information Technology Field? What skills are employers looking for?  What skills are going to needed in the future?  What does it mean to be a lifelong learner?
      Labour Market
      What are the prospects for careers in computer technology?  Using on-line resources, select three careers and determine the following:
      1. What are the job prospects for your chosen careers? 
      2. Are your career choices on the list of those that are growing or declining?
      3. What is the training/education requirements?
      4. What is the starting salary? 
      5. What can you expect to earn after 5 years?
      6. What upgrading is essential?
      7. How will the global market affect career prospects?
    1. Secondly, prepare a resume and covering letter for a potential job.

    Process
    1. Report will use the following criteria:
      • Centre your main title. Use CAPITALS, larger font, and bold.
      • Side headings are on a separate line, underlined in either bold or italics.
      • Create a table to compare the three job choices.
    2. Resume and cover letter
      • Must be on separate pages.
      • May use any format you like, but be consistent with both font and style.
      • Include the advertisement you are applying for.
