Everyday we use computers. For years now we have bragged
how computers have changed the world. And now through the internet, we
have an easy-to-use method of getting in touch with thousands. We use computers
to run our personal lives, process finances, and to do a great deal of
business.
But with computers being so accessible, and with the internet being
used by so many people, how safe are our lives? How safe is the information
we rely on computers to keep. How protected are we from theft, fraud, and
destruction?
Computers come equipped with several security features, and even more
are available. Yet many people don't know what they are, and how
to use them.
The Task:
You are an Systems Analyst at a big company, and have yet to investigate
the security of your system. Your boss tells you that people have complained
about important files being destroyed, and computers being logged into
while they are away from their desk. There is a lot of pressure on
you to change it, because most recently a virus was downloaded onto the
system, and the company lost revenue.
You have to research security of computer systems, and present the technical
details of security it in a report format to your boss. You will also need
to explain the pros/cons of the security types to your boss in a short,
informal presentation. Your boss will then either advise you on what methods
to implement, or she will fire you.
