OUR VISION
The vision of the Forest City Program, located here at Central, is that each student will have the ability to contribute to society in a positive manner.
In order to accomplish this vision, the focus of the four year program is:
- Daily living skills
- Personal social skills
- Vocational/occupational skills
- Literacy and Numeracy skills
PROGRAM ORGANIZATION
Students enrolled in the Forest City Program move through five cycles each year for a minimum of four years. Each cycle is approximately 37 days in length. During the course of the year, a student may be involved in 5 out of 6 classrooms, or ‘clusters’. There is increased opportunity for work experience placements in the community for senior students as they rotate through the cluster cycles.
The clusters are:
- Commercial Foods
- Community Awareness and Daily Living at Central
- Arts and Technology
- Building and Environmental Services at Pond Mills Environmental Centre
- Transition to Work Experience/Life Skills at Lorne Avenue
- Work Experience Program at Masonville Place
- Work Experience Program at the Ed. Centre
- Home Repair and Improvement at Wheable
- S.U.R.E Program (Supported Understanding Regarding Employment) at Westmount Shopping Centre
- Cluster Rotation Schedule for 2007-2008
The S.U.R.E. Program is for students who are at least eighteen years of age and who are ready to be involved in a community placement as recommended by staff. This program is based at Westmount Shopping Centre.
OUR SCHOOL DAY
The beginning of our school day is the same as that of the main Central program. Because of transportation requirements, students in the Forest City Program are dismissed at 2:15pm. Students should not be at school before 7:50am since supervision is not available before that time.
