News and Update

Congratulations to the Central Energizers, proud winners of S.Y.nergy Competition 2007!

Competition Date

April 24, 2007

Set-up and regulations check from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.

Prototypes ran unassisted from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm. Temperature data posted in real-time for monitoring purposes.

Presentations from each team given and judged during the day.

The competition day will take place near the end of the school year, around April or May. The exact date (and a rain date) will be announced a few weeks prior to the date itself when weather predictions are better known.

Teams will set up their prototype and solar panel the night before the competition day. The S.Y.nergy Team will record initial water temperature, perform checks on the prototype dimensions, ensure the absence of power sources (batteries permitted if empty), review cost calculations, and collect team binders. The S.Y.nergy Team will also insert thermocouples into each prototype’s water tank (see the required design under The Photovoltaic Water Heating System) such that water temperature can be tracked.

The next morning at sunrise the competition day begins! The prototypes will run until sunset, with thermocouples periodically measuring and recording water temperature. This data will be displayed on the S.Y.nergy website throughout the day for teams to check on… and to check out the competitors’ prototype data.

Teams will gather again at the competition location in the evening for presentations to the judging panel and the award ceremony. There may be media coverage as well.

A detailed schedule of the competition day as well as more detailed guidelines for the presentation to the judges will be posted on the website and the forum prior closer to the competition date.
