Competition Expectations:
This competition was one that required teams to deliver a design that is functional and innovative, within a project that is well-done with attention to detail.
To succeed, teams must be organized, hard-working, and brilliant. The competition required both the skills of technical design and project management. The final product is not the only important aspect of the challenge – the process of designing is also very important.
Note that the project was more or less an engineering design project, and therefore it is highly useful to learn the basics of engineering design prior to starting the design process.
Participants were to understand that this project may be daunting for the average high school student. It is, quite literally, a challenge, and students were expected to take initiative to conduct their own research and learn concepts that go beyond the curriculum. Teams must also learn how to work together in a complementary and efficient manner. Remember that this was an inquiry-based challenge, where knowledge should be actively sought and then applied on your own initiative.
