June 2nd, 2009

Dear Families,

We can hardly believe that it is June and the end of the school year is almost here! Below is some information on the upcoming month. If you have any questions, please contact us at the school (519-452-8310) or talk to us on the yard before or after class.

Communication

Please continue to check your child’s planner daily and remove notices from the front pocket. If you need to send us a message or hand in pizza money, etc., slide it in the front pocket. Your child is expected to return the planner to school daily.

Homework

Even though school is wrapping up, it is still important that you read with your child every day. Please record the books read on the Reading Log found in the front pocket of the planner. We have had many children accomplish the goal of reading 100 Home Reading books! The ‘100 Most Commonly Used Words’ list was sent home with your child in November, again in February, and lastly in May. Please practice these words regularly. By the end of the year your child should be able to read these words with ease. In Math, your child has been working with probability concepts and in Science they have been discussing the Life Cycles of plants and animals.

Snacks

The students have been doing a great job of packing healthy food to eat for snack. Please remember that Lord Elgin strives to be a peanut-free environment. We are also currently working on packing litterless lunches and snacks.

Social Skill of the Month

Congratulations to Andy and Jessica who were our Terrific Kids for May and to Ally who was our academic award winner. The focus for June is ‘Giving Complements’.

Year End Trip

We will be travelling with the Grade 1/2 class by bus to Gibbon’s Park where we will release our butterflies and tadpoles. The children will enjoy a picnic lunch, complete a scavenger hunt, and get a chance to play on the playground equipment and in the splash pad. More information is on its way shortly!

Can you believe in less than a month school will be over!?!

Greetings,

Angela Mitchell & Rebecca Hulet
