Work experience is compulsory for four weeks in grades 11 and 12. Sir George Ross Secondary School has a network of over 200 employers to provide work experience opportunities throughout the year. All students in grades 11 and 12 must participate in workplace learning situations in November and April. They have the opportunity to practice classroom skills in the world of work and to learn vital employability skills under the supervision of employers. Evaluation by employers is incorporated at 15 percent of the student's courses. Upon completing grade 12 students have at least two months experience to include on their resumes. The work experience enables students to acquire letters of recommendation, part-time employment, and valuable future contacts. Our compulsory work experience greatly enhances the student portfolio which all students are creating as a vital part of their career search.
